what does a branding
agency actually do?

Ask ten people what a branding agency does and most will say 'logos'. The logo is the last ten percent. The real work is everything before and after it: deciding what the brand should mean, building the system that expresses it, and making sure it survives contact with the real world.

  • strategy → identity → rollout
  • in-house design team
  • identities that ship, not decks

asked often.

What happens before any design starts?

Strategy. Who the brand is for, what it should make people feel, how it sits against competitors, what it sounds like. Design without this step is decoration, it's why two businesses in the same street can charge completely different prices for the same product.

What do you actually receive at the end?

A system, not a file: the logo suite, typography, colour, imagery direction, and templates for the things your team makes every week, with guidelines tight enough that anyone applying the brand gets it right and loose enough to grow.

How is a branding agency different from a freelance designer?

Depth and accountability across the whole system. A designer can draw you a mark; an agency pressure-tests the strategy, designs the full system, and stays through rollout, menus, social, signage, the website. You get what you pay for: the fee buys the thinking, not just the drawing.

When is the right time to invest in branding?

Before the expensive touchpoints. Branding a venue before the signage, menus and website are made costs once; rebranding after they exist costs twice.
