does my site need one?
llms.txt is a plain-text file at the root of a website that tells AI assistants, in unglamorous sentences, who you are and which pages matter. It's simple, cheap, and still rare, which is exactly why it's worth having.

What goes in it?
What the business does, where it operates, the services, the clients worth naming, and links to the pages you'd want quoted. Short sentences, no marketing language. Ours sits at four4-creatives.com/llms.txt if you want to see a real one.
Do assistants actually read it?
Some do, some don't, and the standard is young. It costs an hour to write and removes ambiguity for anything that does read it, that's a sensible bet, not a guarantee.
Is it a substitute for good pages?
No. It's a map, not the territory. If the pages it points to don't answer anything, the file doesn't help. Content first, file second.
